Coaching for young adults 18+

You don't need to have your whole life figured out. You can learn to trust yourself with what comes next.

There can be enormous pressure to know who you are, what you want and what you are going to do with your life.

Young adult coaching gives you a place to consider the advice and expectations around you, understand what matters to you, work through decisions and take steps that are yours.

You can become more confident not because you suddenly have all the answers, but because you learn that you can make choices, take action, learn from what happens and adjust along the way.

When everyone seems to expect an answer

You are making important decisions while you are still discovering who you are.

Education. Work. Money. Relationships. Independence. Where to live. What kind of future you want.

It can feel as though you are supposed to have answers to all of it.

The people who care about you may have valuable experience, advice and hopes for your future. At the same time, you are learning what matters to you and what kind of life feels right for you.

You may second-guess yourself, avoid making a decision, compare yourself to everyone around you or choose what seems safest because you are afraid of getting it wrong.

You don't have to know your entire future to begin making thoughtful choices about what comes next.

Two perspectives can both matter

What others may see

The experience, perspective, hopes and advice of people who know and care about you.

What you are discovering

Your own values, interests, strengths, needs and ideas about the life you want to build.

Learning to make your own decisions doesn't mean making them alone.

You can listen to people you trust, consider their experience and advice, and learn to weigh that alongside what you are discovering about yourself.

What can change

Build a life that feels more like yours.

Coaching can help you:

See how coaching helps

Know yourself better.

Become clearer about your values, strengths, needs and what actually matters to you.

Develop your own judgment.

Listen to advice, ask for help and consider different perspectives while becoming more confident deciding what feels right for you.

Trust yourself more.

Spend less time second-guessing every decision and learn that you can respond even when something doesn't work out.

Handle comparison differently.

Notice when someone else's life is making you question your own pace, choices or worth.

Communicate what you need.

Become better able to express yourself, set boundaries and navigate changing relationships.

Follow through.

Turn intentions into manageable action and build evidence that you can rely on yourself.

Change direction when you need to.

Learn that changing your mind doesn't automatically mean you made a mistake. Sometimes it means you learned something.

Confidence is something you build

You don't have to feel confident before you begin.

You can wait a very long time to feel completely certain.

Confidence often grows after you make a decision, try something, discover what happens and realize that you can handle the outcome, even when things don't go exactly as planned.

Questions about young adult coaching

A little clarity before you decide.

What if I have no idea what I want to do?

That's okay.

You don't need to arrive with a direction or a goal. We can start with what you know right now: what interests you, what isn't working, what you're wondering about or what feels confusing, and explore from there.

Will you tell me what to do?

No.

I will help you understand your choices, consider the advice and perspectives available to you, recognize what is influencing you and hear your own thinking more clearly.

If you need specialized academic, career, financial or other professional advice, I will encourage you to get that expertise.

Can coaching really help me become more confident?

Yes, but perhaps not in the way you expect.

We aren't waiting for you to suddenly feel confident. You can build confidence by making decisions, taking manageable risks, following through and discovering that you can handle what happens next.

Is coaching confidential if someone else is paying?

Yes.

If you are 18 or older, what you discuss in coaching will not be shared with a parent or another person paying for your sessions without your permission, except where disclosure is required by law. We will make those boundaries clear before coaching begins.
